Give Your Sorrow Words

There seems, for a past little while, to have been a lot of unforeseen death all around. Tsunamis, a dreadful bus crash, turbulence in the Middle East.

I am personally familiar with unforeseen death, the most recent being my thirty-two year old brother, a policeman, ambushed and killed on duty.

There is only one way to grieve – YOUR WAY. Grieving is something one cannot crawl under, climb over, or sidestep: one needs to go directly through it to begin the journey of healing. Grief, in itself, is a tonic.

One way to grieve is to write. ‘Give sorrow words’ says Shakespeare. Writing about death, whether anticipated as in illness, or sudden, gives us the opportunity to make some sense of the tragedy, to celebrate those who have died, and most importantly– to explore the depths of our love, which for most of us is unfathomable. Writing about grief can be a cathartic experience which may bring us closer to remembering those who have died with less pain.

I will continue to burn a commemorative candle for the victims of weather, wreckages, and war until its light ignites a brighter tomorrow.

Please contact Doane House www.doanehospice.org if you need any form of bereavement support. Our door is wide open, so is our heart.
